The --opt_level option is the single most important option for optimizing an application. It requires a value
as its parameter, which can be 0, 1, 2, or 3. When --opt_level=0 (or –o0 in short) is used, no optimization
is performed at all. The greater the value is, the higher the optimization level is. When --opt_level=3 (or
–o3) is used, the compiler will try to perform all the optimization techniques it is capable of carrying out
(such as software pipelining) based on the knowledge that is available to it. Other techniques discussed in
this section can be viewed as different ways to supply additional information about the application to the
compiler.
