LMX2820EVM: Questions regarding the use of an external oscillator with the LMX2820.

Part Number: LMX2820EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMX2820, LMX2595

Dear TI Support Team,

I have two questions regarding the section “A Using Different Reference Clock” in the LMX2820EVM design documentation:

Question 1:

The differential clock example does not include an external crystal oscillator (XO). Does this imply that the LMX2820 does not support or is not recommended for use with a differential crystal oscillator? If differential XOs are supported, could you please provide the relevant design specifications and implementation guidelines?

Question 2:

In the single‑ended clock example, when soldering crystal oscillator Y1, why is resistor R35 a 0‑ohm resistor connected to ground, rather than a 50‑ohm resistor? I have observed that in design manuals for other similar RF chips (e.g., the LMX2595, as shown in the attached figure), this resistor is typically 50 ohms.

Looking forward to your reply.

Best regards,
