TX7316EVM: TX7316EVM B-mode no output waveform, register write failure observed during troubleshooting

Part Number: TX7316EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TX7316

I am currently debugging the TX7316EVM and failed to capture the expected output waveform under B-mode.
I powered the EVM board via DC power supplies with input voltages of ±5V, ±50V and ±100V. For oscilloscope measurement, a passive probe connected to oscilloscope CH1 was used to test TX-OUT pin 2 (TR_SF_SYNC) and pin 1 (GND), and CH1 was set as the trigger source. A high-voltage differential probe was connected to oscilloscope CH1-triggered CH2 channel to measure pin 3 and pin 20 (GND). I followed the official user guide to launch the official GUI software and perform hardware reset after power-up. When running the B-mode test, I was supposed to observe a 1MHz 4-pulse waveform on CH2, yet only random noise was captured on this channel, while CH1 presented a DC voltage of approximately -174.5mV.
To locate the root cause of the missing waveform, I carried out a series of troubleshooting steps. The EVM was connected to the computer via USB cable, and J1, J2, J3 power terminals were wired accordingly. After supplying power to J1 (±5V) and pressing the S1 hardware reset button on the board, I clicked the register reset and initialization button on the GUI, where all registers were displayed as 0 initially. However, once I read all register values, all parameters turned to 1. I tried modifying several register values to 0 and executed the write operation. After the software returned to the Idle state and I reread the selected registers, all modified values reverted back to 1, which meant the configuration parameters could not be successfully written to the hardware chip. Besides, the register values displayed after triggering the B-mode test button were inconsistent with the actual readback values from hardware.
I also completed basic power supply verification by measuring the voltage across capacitor C62 referenced to the schematic, and the measured result was 0.467V, indicating the AVDD_IO power rail is powered normally.
I have previously emailed my detailed issue description to TI technical support mailbox support_us_afe_tx@list.ti.com but have not received any response so far.
I look forward to hearing some advice from you.

  • Hello,
    Please confirm power supply again:
    J3: ±5v
    J2: ±100V
    J1: ±50V
Regarding TX7316 datasheet, the reset value of registers are not all 0s, do you confirm GUI connected to EVM successful?
Do the status at the bottom left-hand corner of the GUI read Idle?
Could you test "3. Off-chip beamforming" in user guide first to confirm the board worked?

  • Hello, regarding the voltage of J1, J2, and J3, I used a DC-DC module for power supply. I checked the voltage and it should be fine.
In addition, I also checked that the software is operating in Idle state.
Also, I checked 3. Off chip beamforming and it seems that it is not working properly.

The following image is the oscilloscope graph during Off chip beamforming. I connected the red of the passive probe to TX_2 and the black to TX_1, and the red of the high-voltage differential probe to TX_3 and the black to TX_1

  • Hello,

Press switch S1 to reset the EVM. After EVM reset, the CPLD on board starts emitting 1-kHz TR_BF_SYNC and TR_EN signals.

         Could you get these signals?

It it is still failed, I guess the code in CPLD is crashed, please contact with ultrasound_tx-support@list.ti.com to get support.
