ChargingCurrent() is the result of the charging algorithm settings. See TRM https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sluubk0b/sluubk0b.pdf, 14.4 Advanced Charging Algorithm.
This is not the same as protection. OCC1/OCC2 are explained in 14.9, which is a separate function.
OCCx are thresholds for the protection. If the actual current that is measured into the cells during charging exceeds these thresholds, the protector will trip.
ChargingCurrent() is the recommended current that the charger should apply. This is usually well below the OCCx thresholds for protection.
