BQ25600: bq25600: Intermittent power jitter and unexpected REGN shutdown upon VBUS insertion

Part Number: BQ25600

We have integrated the bq25600 as the Li-ion battery charger in our custom-designed device. Approximately 20% of our production units encounter the same issue. For an affected device, the issue is intermittent, with a reproduction rate of only about 3% to 10%.

Symptom: When VBUS is plugged in, an unknown power jitter/fluctuation may occur within 0 to 10 seconds post-insertion. In some cases, this fluctuation resolves itself within a few seconds and returns to normal operation. However, most of the time, the issue persists continuously until VBUS is disconnected.

When the symptom occurs, we observe that the REGN pin repeatedly shuts down to 0V, which should not be happening under normal operating conditions.

Below are the captured signals when the issue occurs:

Circuit Setup:

VBUS (5V) is supplied via USB-C. The charging current limit is set to 500mA when connected to a PC, and 1.6A when connected to an Adapter.

1.Hardware checks on the PCB have ruled out soldering defects, wrong component values, and open/short circuits on peripheral components.

2.We checked all enabling conditions for the REGN pin. Even though every condition is satisfied, the REGN output is still disabled.

We would really appreciate any help in solving this issue. Let me know if I can provide any additional information.

Thanks
