BQ25883: Clarification on IINDPM Application Questions

Part Number: BQ25883

We found that after CHRG_STAT (0Bh) enters Charge Termination Done, the setting of IINDPM will be invalid.

Problem Description:
If the maximum current of the load at the back end of VSYS is 2400mA, if IINDPM=500mA in SDP status, the actual measured I_VBUS current in CC/CV mode is close to 500mA. But when CHRG_STAT is Charge Termination Done, the actual measured I_VBUS current is close to 1030mA.

Result description:
According to the experimental results, after BQ25883 enters Charge Termination Done, although IINDPM is set at 500mA, the actual current limit function has not function.

We need confirmation from TI about whether the IINDPM function is ineffective when BQ25883 enters Charge Termination Done.

Thank you.

  • 您好,

Below are my test results from an EVM on the bench.  IINDPM does not change after charge termination.

The IINDPM control loop has a finite response time of about 150us as shown in red curve of the the datasheet plot below.

I think the boost converter, all of which are known to pull large current pulses, is pulling high current very quickly.  The converter is not expected to respond that quickly.  I recommend adding more SYS capacitance to handle the boost converter current spikes.
