Below is a cutout from the BQ25790 EVM user's guide. BQ24179 is a downspin of BQ25790.
C24 (CPMID decoupling) and C26 (CSYS decoupling) are the most critical and must be placed on top of the IC on the same layer. C3 and C13 are the BTST caps. I recommend those be place on the bottom side of the board, connected with vias, instead of as shown above. That allows the CVBUS and CSYS caps to be placed closer. The inductor (partially shown at the top) is connected with vias but could be placed on bottom layer.
