LM61460-Q1: How the IC works under high pressure

Part Number: LM61460-Q1

1、What happens at 36V or higher input, what are the inductor currents, at what voltage does IC breakdown?

2、 What happens to the regulator output during a load dump?(35V 150ms)

Is the regulator input protected or compatible with the load dump transient?

  • Hi,

、What happens at 36V or higher input, what are the inductor currents, at what voltage does IC breakdown?

The IC is rated for an abs max voltage of 42V. Therefore, there should be no damage to the device during these load transients (which are standard tests for 12V systems and this device is extensively used in such applications). The IC will breakdown above 42V.

Load dump is a system level implementation . The device should work well with a suppressed load dump (typical max value between 35V to 40V)

However, For unsuppressed load dump (as shown in the image you have shared), it is recommended to use a TVS diode at the input pin - the clamping voltage is below the abs max of the device (35V is a typical value that I have seen customers use).

If the customer is looking for extra protection features - the customer can consider our ideal diode controllers as well (please see this app note: https://www.ti.com/lit/ab/snoaaa1/snoaaa1.pdf

    Thanks,

    Best Regards,
