TIDA-01606: Loss Estimations

Part Number: TIDA-01606

hello

The switching and conduction losses for Q1 and Q3 in inverter mode are given in this reference design, can you provide us with the switching and conduction losses in rectification mode and how they are calculated?

THANKS

  • Stephen,

There is a good reference for loss comparison between inverter mode and pfc mode for a 25kW t type here.  this manual doesn't show the equations. The general switching and conduction losses equations for pfc and inverter are similar as shown in tida-01606.  The switching loss voltage is bit different due to the applied voltage across Q3/Q4 is the phase voltage instead of the VBUS/2 across Q1/Q2.  For PFC mode, the Q1/Q2 is soft switching.  For the inverter mode, Q3/Q4 is soft switching.

This white paper has some info on the operation for t type and losses for inverter and pfc modes.
