关于内联函数和汇编指令的疑问

我想用内联函数来取两个int型变量（32位）的较大值，看了一下内联函数有_max2和_max4，和汇编指令MAX2和 MAXU4 但是他们的用法比较奇特，他们用法是把32位的int型变量拆成4个8位或2个16位，然后8位8位的比较或16位和16位比较，这完全不符合常理啊？请问大家，怎么用内联函数或汇编指令直接比较两个int型的大小啊？
