TDA4AL-Q1: device's UART is no response after power on about 13 minutes

Part Number: TDA4AL-Q1

Hi TI

After power on about 13 minutes,
device's UART is no response, it can not input command or output log.

u-boot shell "=>" or "kernel shell "root@j721s2-evm:~#" have the same problem

Is there any timeout mechanism ?
How to make it alive ?

Best Thanks
Jiahao

  • HI,

    Sorry for the late reply,

Can you help us with the following questions.

1:Are you using a custom board?

2:What is the boot mode you are using: SPL or SBL?

3:What are the configurations set for UART.

4:Can you describe the hardware (cabling) connection between the board and PC?

5:What is the boot device you are booting from ?

    Regards

  • Hi Lydia

1:Are you using a custom board?
Yes, we are using the custom board that is with TDA4AL processor.
It is different from the TI EVB Board with TDA4VE processor

2:What is the boot mode you are using: SPL or SBL?
According to the below, It should be SPL Boot.

3:What are the configurations set for UART.
4:Can you describe the hardware (cabling) connection between the board and PC?
The configurations set for UART is default in the TI SDK-LINUX-J721S2 of version 10.00.00.08.
We didn’t change any setting for UART.
We have no problem for the UART Debug Console Communication between Board and PC.
From the power-on, the below functionalities works successfully
    1) U-Boot and Linux Debug Console via UART
    2) U-boot command mode via UART
    3) Linux Serial Console via UART

Our problem is The A72 main processor suffers an unexplained power loss after The boot-up process takes 13 minutes.

    Best Regards
    Jiahao

  • After booting up, it can input u-boot command and output normally.
After 13 minutes, the u-boot command can not input and no response.

    this my uart log :

  • Hi,

Can you help us with why the boot-up process is taking so long ?

Can you also provide us with a snapshot upto the point it is getting stuck?

Also, just a small question. Is reset or reboot happening automatically after the point it gets stuck.

    Regards

Can you also provide us with a snapshot upto the point it is getting stuck?

  • Thanks for your reply.

Just to clarify , is there any specific reason why you are stopping at u-boot for 13 minutes.

    Regards

  • Hi Lydia:

There have no specific reason that u-boot stopping.

We have power on the device and stop in u-boot mode. And doing nothing in u-boot. Just waiting. After 13 minutes, the UART console can't input any u-boot command again.

We have measure the current consumption.

In uboot mode and can input command from UART console: current about 530 mA ~ 550 mA

After happen issue (UART console can't input any command): current about 240 mA.

It's seem somebody power off the A72 processor.

          1. Am I know where can control to shutdown A72 processor? Is DSMC or any other processor?

          2. As I know the tiboot3.bin include

              ti-fs-firmware-j721s2-gp.bin run at DMSC.

              TIFS with board cfg: include board-cfg.bin, sec-cfg.bin, pm-cfg.bin, rm-cfg.bin.

Does there have any setting need config on pm-cfg.bin to avoid power off A72?

  • Hi,

1:Are you using a custom board?

Can you verify the same on TI EVM and verify if the issue is reproduced, because we never faced such issues.
