AM2434: Does the AM2434+BP3351 development board combination support the sdio interface

Part Number: AM2434
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3351, LP-AM243,

Does the LP-AM243 and CC3351 support the sdio interface in the RTOS system and can you provide an example of the code implementation of the sdio interface.I only found support for the SPI interface in the user guidance document, not for the SDIO interface.

  • Hello, we have received your case and the investigation will take some time. Thank you for your patience.

  • Hi,

The activity in this thread should provide some hints. Thanks.

  • How to use the sdio interface between AM2434 and BP3351 development boards? Can you provide a code example for using the sdio interface on WiFi?

  • Hi,

Thank you for your follow-up question.

We currently do not have a code example for using the SDIO interface; in the picture you presented, the AM243 and CC33xx are connected in that manner to easily support the SPI interface as mentioned in the other thread I referenced.

    1. What is the customer's use case in using SDIO, when we already present the SPI option?

    2. Is the customer planning to purchase the AM243 in addition to the BP3551?

    3. If the answer to question 2 is no, the customer will need to implement their own SDIO interface between the host MCU they are using and the BP3551.

  • Clarifying question 2: Is the customer planning to go to production with the AM243 and the CC3551?

  • 1、 The customer is using the sdio interface of BP3551, not the SPI interface. But I don't know how to achieve it.

    2、 Will purchase BP3351 and AM243

Does the LP-AM243 and CC3351 support the sdio interface in the RTOS system?

  • If the sdio interface debugging is successful, it is possible to put AM243 and CC3551 into production.

  • Hi,

Like I previously mentioned, we do not have an example using the SDIO interface. We will not be providing SDIO implementation unless it is a feature that is absolutely necessary for your customer, and if there is strong reason from your customer that SPI cannot be used between these two devices.

If you look at the launchpads of the AM243 and the BP3351 and examine the pinouts, here is additional headwind for your customer: the pins do not line up! The customer will have to use jumper wires just to set up the right connections for the SDIO interface, and the customer also needs to verify the supported voltage levels for the SDIO pins.

Therefore, we strongly recommend using SPI to avoid all this headache.

Can you provide additional details on the following:

    1. Who is your customer and what is the opportunity size?

    2. Why is your customer adamant about using SDIO?

If there is additional confusion, we can set up a call with the customer.
