TMDS273EVM: Is it possible to combine AWR2243BOOST + TMDS273EVM+DCA1000EVM for real-time point cloud visualization and ADC data capture simultaneously?

Part Number: TMDS273EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR2243BOOST, DCA1000EVM, AWR2243, TIDA-020047, AM2732

Hi TI Team,

I’m currently working with AWR2243BOOST, TMDS273EVM, and DCA1000EVM, and I’d like to achieve the following:

  • Real-time visualization of point cloud data

  • Simultaneous capture and storage of raw ADC data

  1. Can AWR2243BOOST + TMDS273EVM alone perform both real-time point cloud visualization and raw ADC data capture at the same time?

  2. Is it possible to cascade TMDS273EVM and DCA1000EVM together with an AWR224BOOST board to achieve both functionalities?

  3. If cascading is not supported, can I use two AWR2243BOOST boards—one with DCA1000EVM for ADC capture and the other with TMDS273EVM for point cloud visualization?

  4. Is there any official Quick Start Guide for using AWR2243BOOST + TMDS273EVM? If not, could you please give a brief instruction on how I should connect them?

  5. Regarding the HQCD-030-12.00-TEU-SEU-1 cable used for these boards, are there any pin-order or polarity considerations to avoid damaging the hardware?

Thanks in advance for your detailed clarification!

Best regards,
Jay

  • Hi Jay

    Pls find my reply below:

For Q1 &Q2, Pls refer to mmw demo in MCUplus SDK, https://dr-download.ti.com/software-development/software-development-kit-sdk/MD-U4MY7aGNn5/04.06.01.02/mmwave_mcuplus_sdk_04_06_01_02-Windows-x86-Install.exe
    3. If cascading is not supported, can I use two AWR2243BOOST boards—one with DCA1000EVM for ADC capture and the other with TMDS273EVM for point cloud visualization?

If you wish to cascading 2 AWR2243 to achieve 6T8R simutaneously,  you will need TIDA-020047 hardware to capture ADC data or get point cloud, if using 2 AWR2243BOOST, they can not share the LO or any other sycn signals.
    4. Is there any official Quick Start Guide for using AWR2243BOOST + TMDS273EVM? If not, could you please give a brief instruction on how I should connect them?

I believe you can find the official user guide of these EVMs on the home page of these EVMs.
    5. Regarding the HQCD-030-12.00-TEU-SEU-1 cable used for these boards, are there any pin-order or polarity considerations to avoid damaging the hardware?

I don't think so, the socket can only match with each other in one direction, which prevent you from damaging the board.

  • Hi Ken,

Thank you very much for your reply.

    Regarding Q1 & Q2:
The link you provided allows me to download the SDK only. However, I couldn't find any corresponding demos or relevant documents/videos within the demo folders. Could you please provide more details or point me to the exact demo and instructions?

    For Q3:
As per your previous reply, you mentioned that the TIDA-020047 hardware is required to simultaneously capture ADC data and obtain point cloud data. However, this hardware isn't available for sale from TI. Therefore, I'm planning to use two separate setups at the same location: one AWR2243BOOST board cascaded with the TMDS273EVM for point cloud visualization, and another AWR2243BOOST cascaded with the DCA1000EVM for ADC data capture. My primary concern is whether cascading the AWR2243BOOST with the TMDS273EVM alone is feasible. If this is possible, could you please guide me on how to properly cascade and operate these two devices safely, especially regarding connections for power and data cables? I'm concerned about potentially damaging the hardware due to incorrect connections.

    For Q5:
Could you confirm if the SamTech HQCD-030 series cables are universally compatible with TI hardware? Specifically, if I purchase these cables independently and connect them to TI hardware, will there be any risk of circuit damage? I was unable to find recommended cable models or ordering information directly on TI's official website.

    Looking forward to your clarification.

    Best regards,
    Jay

  • Hi

Sorry for the delay due to holiday,

1,AM273x Evaluation Module User's Guide (Rev. D) pls refer to chapter 2.4,  Pls only power AM2732 and connect the uart of AM2732 for debug and evaluation.

    2. for Demo instruction pls down load SDK 4.4.0.1  https://dr-download.ti.com/software-development/software-development-kit-sdk/MD-U4MY7aGNn5/04.04.00.01/mmwave_mcuplus_sdk_04_04_00_01-Windows-x86-Install.exe

and refer to SDK user guide in this path  mmwave_mcuplus_sdk_04_04_00_01\mmwave_mcuplus_sdk_04_04_00_01\docs.

    3. I cannot comment more on third party products.
